Toledo Artists' Club

The Toledo Artists’ Club, affiliate of the Federation of Art Societies, has a purpose of organizing the Toledo Area Artists’ Exhibit at the Toledo Museum of Art.  The TAC Board of Trustees has 24 members; 18 voting members and 6 associates.  Election of Board members occurs at the May Membership Potluck meeting.  The Board meets the second Thursday of the month at 7:00pm and all members are welcome.

Gallery Shows are scheduled on an annual basis.  Exhibits run for approximately one month per show.  TAC retains 30% commission on members’ work sold from the Gallery.  Volunteers are needed to serve as chairpersons and assist with show hangings, taking in entries, and other duties.

A mini-gallery is in the back hall of the TAC building and also there is a glass case in the classroom.  All members are welcome to display two small paintings (preferably 8x10) in these areas.  Portfolio stands (bins) for members to display larger matted and plastic wrapped works throughout the year are also available.  All work must be registered in the office binder and TAC retains a 30% commission on all sales.

Spot Shows are for TAC members who have three paintings approved by the Board, after which they may request or be asked to exhibit their work at various businesses in Toledo and surrounding areas.  The Club retains a 30% commission on any work sold through a Spot Show.

The Summer Outdoor Show varies from year to year, held at Toledo Botanical Garden outside the clubhouse and throughout the gardens.  Members may present their work for sale and/or demonstration.

Heralding the Holidays, a Garden-wide event, provides the opportunity for TAC members to display their work at boutique tables.  Small wrapped paintings are needed with bins and mini-gallery offerings.  Members are allowed to display an unlimited number of small works during the holiday season.

An annual auction is held and serves as the main fundraiser for the Club. One to three entries per member are permitted with a 50% commission going to the Club for all works sold.  Some members choose to generously donate their work as door prizes.  Volunteers are also needed for this event.

Sketchpad is the monthly newsletter of the Club, with news of member recognition in shows, awards earned and general information about TAC happenings.  A prospectus is a notification of upcoming exhibits including rules and entry forms.  All entries must be original, an appropriate subject and suitably framed.  All shows except the “New Member Show” are juried.  Prize money and ribbons are given to award winners.

Classes are offered throughout the year with such topics as oil/acrylic, watercolor and drawing as well as children’s drawing and mixed media classes.  Workshops are held throughout much of the year in the TAC classroom and have a limit of 20 participants.  Demonstrations and programs are offered occasionally as well.
